Although there are other ways to get to and around Akumal, renting a car at Cancun Airport and driving to Akumal is the most reliable and convenient, and in most cases, the least costly.  If you choose to take public transportation though, there are plenty of options for you to use.  An airport to hotel shuttle will be more comfortable than a bus and much less expensive than a private taxi.  Below is information on all types of ground transportation available to and around Akumal.

Akumal Bus Service
Buses are available from Cancun International Airport to Akumal; however, the bus will not take you to your hotel.  You will be dropped off along the highway to walk, luggage and all.  The bus may be inexpensive, but it is definitely worth it to spend a little extra on a shuttle.

Akumal Shuttle Service
If you are not renting a car at the airport, an airport shuttle to Akumal may be the best route to go.  Cheaper than a taxi and more comfortable than a bus, a shuttle will take you from the door of Cancun International Airport straight to the door of your hotel, with possibly just a few stops in between.  You can reserve a place on a shuttle either through your hotel or once you get to the airport, though I recommend reserving in advance to be assured of a seat and the best rates.

Akumal Taxi Service
If you choose to take a taxi from Cancun International Airport to Akumal, be prepared to pay a hefty fare.  It will cost you over $100 USD for each way, up to two passengers, extra passengers will be charged extra.  Once in Akumal taxi service is available for a rate of about $5 each way within the town limits.

Akumal Car Rental
Renting a car from the airport is the best way to travel to and around Akumal.  Not only is it the most economical option, it is also the only way to see everything that Akumal has to offer at your leisure.
Your U.
